Words of Comfort and Encouragement to those who find it hard to forgive
“Forgiveness is the virtue of the courageous, the response of the forgiven, the mercy of the just.”
This is a very sensitive subject matter. I don’t think anybody actually finds it easy to forgive people that caused them pain. Especially who those people did it intentionally. People can be very cruel: No empathy, no conscience, selfish in every way.
I once asked someone how he doesn’t feel guilty when he cheats on his wife. He told me that he intentionally killed that voice that rebukes him in his heart.
Unforgiveness lingers, it can stay with you for a lifetime. It causes bitterness and unrest each time you remember or see the person that caused it. It takes away your peace and keeps you boiling and boiling resulting in more hatred for that person. Sometimes the person doesn’t even beg for your forgiveness. They don’t care what you feel. They may even claim what they did was right.
Reasons to Forgive
Forgiveness frees you from their hold; it eases your mind and takes the weight off your shoulders. When you forgive, you may still remember and feel hurt but it will lessen with time and you will get your peace of mind and be able to move on.
Forgiveness is never easy as some things lost can never be gotten back again. But for what it’s worth, we too have grieved others.
